I've said before, that having kids close together has one major drawback- and that's the fact that i never get much time alone with any of them.
So i put forward a suggestion that we have monthly 'Date nights' not with each other - (who needs romance anyway) with the kids.
So today we launched the 'Every second week, by rotation - Date nights' - i know - catchy title right? Haha... It was mum n Tivi night.
We have matching coughs, matching antibiotics - so she wanted matching hair. She suggested we straighten our hair- then curl it. Haha... we settled on just curling it, but she soon discovered that Curling hair requires standing still - so she asked for "Two curls on each side" haha... so after giving her two loose ringlets on each side, that quickly straightened anyway,i had to give my frizz hair "Two curls" too... she chose a dress. A lovely red number Aunty Van got her from Vietnam for New Year.
We put on makeup, and posed for pictures.
Dear Tivi,
I loved how excited you've been all week about Date night. I love that you love dressing up and going out to be 'fancy'... i love how your eyes lit up when we watched the trailer to Star Wars. I know, i feel the same when i see light saber action.
I know it was a little disorganised this time. The weather's been crazy and its the post holidays lull in kids movies. But hey- this is the first time and i loved every minute of it. I like how you kept asking me what i wanted to do.
'Where are we going?' you asked even after we've decided Star Wars in 3D... haha 'where will we eat, because we are fancy?' I suggest sushi at the sushi Train thing that i half recall being outside. When we get to the cinema - you say McDonalds! But just nuggets! And you say water, when i ask if you want Coke. Then you uncertainly that you want Juice, but because of your cough, you probably should have water. (i later realise this is because i've talked to you this week about making better choices for yourself and your body when you aren't well, because you returned half your lunch to me one afternoon and told dad later that night you were too full to have dinner because you bought a slurpee at school.)
I got you a juice and told you it will be okay- we have our meds and should be better anytime now. You ask for a bite of my burger and end up eating half of it. You looked so lovely. I asked you if anyone has ever told you, that you are the most beautiful girl in the world.
And you smile and say 'Yes! Mummy has!'.
You wanted chocolate freckles and Jelly beans from the candy bar- and when i poured it too slowly - you pulled the handle thing and sent Jelly Beans flying all round the overflowing cup. Haha you're so impatient, but it's okay. You should be curious, and hands on.
I know you were really tired- it's been a long week of school - but you didn't want to fall asleep in the movie. When just a little over half way into it, you started coughing so much you almost threw up - i suggested we leave, you agreed.
When we got out, you stopped and looked up at me and said, mum i'm fine! Do you want to watch the movie? ( i know you didn't want to watch anymore, you were barely keeping awake, the 3d glasses were a bit big on you- and the movie was really long). You didn't want to go home. You didn't want Tiv and mummy night to end. It was really sweet. I marvel that you've grown so much and take in so much - and how much i've overlooked, because i tell you to do things without consulting you when truthfully you can make decisions that when given the space to choose, you do extraordinarily well.
I didn't know where else to take you at 8.30- so we drop by the Morrises and tell them about our adventures. To stretch out the day longer you ask if we can have a shower when we get home, and if you can sleep in my bed.
Dad grins when he see's you- all dressed up and beautiful - holding one of my bags that you used to carry all your things in. He tells me later that it was awesome to see us come in all dressed up and Tivi looking so happy.
I'm really tired right now, and there's so much i'd like to say to you that just isn't coming out right. I'm gonna leave this for tomorrow babygirl.
Thank you for tonight. You are amazing.

She's stunning Vien!
