Elastagirl

Haha

I had a conversation that went like this

Zane: You look awesome.

hmmm Yeah, now clean up the mess i made, bitch!

Ummm no.

Yes! And make yourself a mask!

Umm No! You make me a mask.

Haha, so after we sat down to watch Sons of Anarchy - and that was over - we had another chat about mask making.

And At 11.30 Zane's sitting there - cutting out a felt mask. I laugh and ask him if he ever imagined he'd be doing such a thing at age 32. Sitting there cutting out his very own very first- superhero mask.

He shrugs an ambiguous reply still sulking that he has to partake in the costume making.

As i told him earlier, it was time he stepped up, he'd been riding on the coat-tails of our awesomeness for long enough. Haha... we argue a little over what was agreed to and what was said with regards to the whole dressing up and conditions regarding.

I know... these are serious issues in a marriage.

Anyway i settle it with a roundhouse fly kick,  a move Marty often suggests i use to keep the kids in line.

Haha... no of course not, i settle it diplomatically as always.

The funny thing is- aside from the kids- i would have totally imagined being 32 (i'm only 31) and sitting round at 11.30 cutting out masks.

It's the fact that i'm cutting it out to take MY KIDS to their fathers work family day - that throws me a little.

Well it used to throw me... i've been up at all sorts of hours doing all sorts of crazy things - things that get destroyed, forgotten or devoured by sunset the next day.

And this is our way of doing things, like building castles in the sand- my costumes are made from scissors and glue guns. I don't sew. Cardboard and duct tape are my materials for anything that involves structure.  don't know carpentry.

The kids play, they dismantle. They watch things be made and things fall apart - and we come up with new ideas.

I rarely revisit the old creations. If you asked me for a tutorial - i'd give you a blank stare, half a smile and a confusion of nonsensical trials and errors.

All i know is what it should kinda look like - and the stuff in the middle is 'whatever works.'.

Hehe what a life philosophy eh??

Anyway... It's a big day tomorrow. The kids are crazy excited. Che's been counting down all week. We're catching the train. Hehe, Zane's excited too. I know he always wants to be part of this stuff, it's taken me 7 years to break through the 'i'm too cool' barrier. Wooohooo.

Today the thanks are these

1. To Jay and Sarika

We recieved this last week:

Wow, they actually sent out thank You's. Personal handwritten notes. Seriously, it made me really happy to read this, it's so nice to get letters. So nice to know that someone took the time to think and write and send such warmth.  I hung it on the fridge. May your days together be filled with all the loveliness you deserve. Thank you for the thoughts, warm and wonderful in your words, it was like sunshine in an envelope.

2. Bex and Dan

Who asked me to do a photoshoot for their store. Thank you for thinking of me and trusting me enough to waste an afternoon of your time. Hehe, i was a little nervous, because photos for me have always been a 'for fun' thing. Despite urgings of numerous people to go pro- i never really had the confidence to put a value on a moment frozen and surreal. The day was fun and the girls, they were beautiful - once they got comfortable i had the favourite shots for the day.

Most of them were awkward because i tried to capture clothing more than faces and it came out all a bit stiff... faces are usually mostly what i like to look at- it took a bit of time. I learned a lot though - about the haphazardness of my snaps. About the need for direction. About shadows and sun and how long it takes everyone to relax and have fun.

Thank you for the opportunity. For dinner, for the lovely images. For the experience.

3. School Holidays with Tiv

After yesterdays theatre experience - we were walking together today while boys were at childcare, looking for premade masks since i didn't feel very crafty. We passed the cinema and i jokingly said - Lets go watch a movie! Her eyes lit up and she pulled me in. I thought about saying I was kidding. Then changed my mind and just ran with it.

We watched a movie. I fell asleep and snored. Hehe good times.

She wanted to go straight home and play with her play dough. We went to get 'Queen of taaa-taaa' as Jacie calls it (cream of tartar.) to make more playdough.

AT dinner, strange child of mine, after i had cooked her prawns for the rolls she wanted, she rolled herself rice paper rolls - filled with nothing but veges. Lettuce and carrot and cucumber rolls.

She rolled and ate rolled and ate.

Sometimes - she amuses me with her randomness. She is thoughtful and quiet in some places, and loud and crazy in others. She is breathtakingly beautiful sometimes. And i have loved the time we've had together these past couple of days. I like having her at home, even if it means more chaos.

4 and 5. To the kids and to AMEX

They jumped up in bed excitedly when i came in to show them the shirt i finally made for myself.

You're Elyasatagerl Mummy! Jacie giggles. He wouldn't stop giggling.

They can't wait for tomorrow. For train rides, costumes. Ballooons. Time with Dad.

Being Incredible.

Thanks kids for giving me an excuse to play. Thanks Amex for having days like family fun day!
